Booklet Information "IN THE EARLY YEARS OF THE 21st CENTURY jazz is enjoying another renaissance; it has become 'hip' once more. And while our lives grow more and more hectic in an increasingly complex world, we again find ourselves turning towards the soothing palette of the jazz idiom to escape and relax. The discerning listener appreciates the attraction of live music, the atmosphere it creates and the spectacle that it provides. In this spirit 'Jazz Sounds' explores the intimate setting of small group jazz. FORMED IN 1999 from leading instrumentalists from the London jazz scene, 'Jazz Sounds' is a superb outfit of professional musicians dedicated to performing exquisite arrangements of the great standard song repertoire. The basic unit of trumpet/flugelhorn, piano and acoustic bass can be augmented to form anything from a two-piece to a six-piece band (with or without vocals). But, whatever the line up, the intention is the same: to provide top quality accessible jazz, tailored to suit each venue and occasion. "AFTER HOURS", our first CD release represents the culmination of three years of working together. In a restrained, laid-back groove we interpret some of the well-known songs of the last Century's greatest composers: Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. The album captures the 'live feel' of our gigs (almost all the tracks here are the first and only takes of the session) and is a perfect illustration of the bands sophisticated approach to the classic late night jazz setting. So kick back, relax and enjoy that "AFTER HOURS" feeling!" |
